Greentec EV & Hybrid Battery Replacement | Bay Area

I strongly advise against changing the battery here. I paid $1,400 for a battery with a 12-month warranty for my 2010 Prius. Before the battery change, my car was running fine. After the battery change, the car lost traction, the fuel consumption increased, and the car constantly started the engine. I had to go to another hybrid mechanic. He found that this company was using faulty modules in their batteries. I had to replace 8 faulty modules. I do not advise anyone to have their car repaired at Greentek. Their mechanics don't even understand what a hybrid system is.

2026 June Update: I did need to make use of GreenTec’s warranty after experiencing two premature battery failures. After working through the issue, it appears the root cause may have been related to the Motor Control Module (MCM) programming that had been updated under Honda Service Bulletin 10‑034 (or a later revision). That updated programming did not seem to work well with GreenTec’s replacement battery under my specific driving conditions. For context, I regularly drove sustained grades in the Bay Area (Vasco Road and Kirker Pass) several times per week. On level roads and moderate terrain, the replacement battery performed very well and helped my vehicle achieve up to 53 MPG on longer trips. However, after several weeks of repeated sustained grade use, MPG dropped substantially and the battery ultimately failed prematurely. GreenTec honored their warranty without difficulty. The solution that resolved the issue was returning the vehicle to its original MCM programming by replacing the programmable unit with a revision 2 (non‑programmable) MCM running the original Honda calibration designed for the factory battery chemistry. Since making that change, the battery has performed much more consistently on sustained grades and my vehicle gets an average of 49 MPG on longer trips. I appreciate that GreenTec stood behind their warranty, and I share this update in case other early Civic Hybrid owners experience similar behavior. It may be worth verifying MCM calibration compatibility when installing a replacement battery. Original Review: I had the hybrid battery on my 2005 Honda Civic replaced by GreenTec Auto. The installation itself was quick and straightforward, which I appreciated. My only concern was that the replacement battery enclosure was quite dusty, as if it had been sitting exposed, and it wasn’t labeled to indicate which batteries were installed (8AH vs. 6.5AH). After a short test drive, I noticed some improvement—on my usual hilly route I still needed to downshift, but the battery didn’t completely run out, which is better than before. In the past, both the original Honda battery and the warranty replacement lasted me about 10 years each, so I’m hopeful this third battery will provide similar longevity.

Really pleased with Greentec. I had used the Dr Prius app and saw several of the 14 blocks of my 2007 Prius (over 160k miles) had issues. As the car is in good shape and I kept regular maintenance, I decided I wanted to keep the car and see if I could replace the hybrid battery with a new one (there are different options including recycled hybrid batteries). Did some research and decided to go with Greentec based on positive reviews from others. I am adding my review to those. Minutes after I emailed, I received a call back from a sales rep who quickly got my info to arrange for an appointment at my place by the local shop in Hayward. Person that does mobile repairs was out sick so they suggested someone come from Sacramento (nearest other location). As I was not needing the car, I delayed the appointment to later in the month but due to backup at the Hayward shop, person from Sacramento ended up coming anyway - Jesus, who I was really happy that he is the one that came out. He called me to give me an ETA of his arrival, and when he arrived, immediately did a test to confirm what I saw using the Dr Prius app. He was super efficient, replacing the hybrid battery (and cleaning the fan that cools the hybrid battery) in just under an hour. Did a test drive afterwards and he shared some useful tips on keeping the hybrid battery healthy and how to know if there might be a problem with it (super fast recharge for example). Price was as advertised and really happy with the mobile service provided by Jesus - thank you for getting my Prius back to health!

KC did an excellent job replacing the battery on our 2018 Nissan Leaf! Our car is back from the dead! The car basically could only go about 20 to 40 miles on a full charge before the fix. Range meter would go up and down erratically while driving it. Using The Chademo Charging port Caused half a dozen error codes, and the car was not drivable after that. Now, with the refurbished 40kw drive battery The car is driving like it Was new. It holds its charge. The range meter works normally. And so does the Chademo Fast charging port. The replaced battery fixed all our issues, like Tyler believed it would. I worked with Tyler in sales and he was fantastic. And I worked with Ed The Sacramento branch and he over saw everything. Green tec auto took care of me And our family car. I think they did the job right. And the cost was totally Worth it and then some. We got our favorite car back from the dead. And we didn’t have to scrap it. This supports our values as a family of Repairing instead of throwing away! Thank you, KC, thank you, Ed, thank you, Tyler!

I replaced the battery in 2024 on my prius . The warranty was 18 months. Fifteen months after installation, I had problems with the hybrid battery. The guys from this office replaced the battery under warranty free of charge without any problems. I give them the maximum number of stars for their honesty, professionalism, and speed of action.
