Tesla Delivery Center Renton

I selected “Transfer License Plate” when purchasing my Model Y. At delivery, the new vehicle had a temporary plate, so I specifically asked the delivery staff whether the permanent plate would be mailed to me. I was told that it would be. Nobody clearly explained that I was supposed to remove my existing plate from the trade-in vehicle and take it with me. Tesla then took possession of my trade-in with my old plate still attached. I later discovered that I did not have the plate that I had selected to transfer. I contacted Tesla and was told to go to the DOL to replace it. I followed that advice and had to pay $84.46 for a replacement plate. I understand Tesla's policy that customers are responsible for retaining their plates. However, if Tesla expects customers who select “Transfer License Plate” to remove the plate themselves at delivery, this needs to be clearly communicated during the delivery process. The issue is not really the $84.46. The problem is that the delivery process was not clear, and a simple instruction could have prevented the entire situation. BTW, their staff keeps framing the issue as the customer's responsibility, effectively shifts the blame to the customer, instead of addressing the underlying process problem.
